Project Introduction – Icons (2010) considers four film icons and the fabrics synonymous with their style. Films such as ‘The Seven Year Itch’, ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’, ‘Giant’ and ‘The Searchers’ not only produced iconic images of their leading actors but also subsequently defined a timeless style in their celebrated costumes. Using reclaimed fabrics we took the notion of recycling and regeneration to celebrate the association between the fabrics’ existence in popular culture and the icons who played an important part in the fabric’s success. Disused clothing is brought back to life in this enduring marriage between icon and fabric.
